2010 REUNION & WEDDING CELEBRATION

The joint reunion of the Gallup and Denison families was held in the meadow of the Denison Homestead. The festivities began with a traditional civil marriage ceremony conducted by a colonial magistrate. Arch Gallup played the role of the magistrate while Amy Scott and Jonathan McCue were Mercy Gallup and Williams Denison. Dressed in period clothing, they looked as if they stepped out of a page in history. As with all weddings, the bride’s dress was a conversation piece.  It was made by a friend of Amy Scott, who specializes in making period clothing.  Designed in a colonial style, the dress was made of fabric which was woven on a loom of the period in a traditional color and pattern.

After the ceremony, a picnic lunch buffet was served complete with British Punch and a large sheet cake decorated with both the Gallup and Denison coat of arms.  The punch recipe was provided by Gail White. The cake and lunch were organized by Anne Nolwalk.

After the lunch, Colonial New England Historian, Gail White, gave a talk on what a  young married couple would require to set up housekeeping in 1710  Connecticut.  Gail’s presentation included many examples of kitchen and other interesting period artifacts.
